Tess Bender (BS '15)

animal climbing up a treeTess Bender (BS '15) is a recent graduate of the Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Natural Resources and is currently working as a Field Technician for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC). Tess Bender-MartenWorking closely with Dr. Paul Jensen, Tess is refining camera trap techniques for the elusive American Marten in the High Peaks region of Adirondack Park. In addition to her marten work, she is also assisting other members of NYSDEC with waterfowl banding, small mammal trapping, peregrine falcon nest monitoring, and nuisance wildlife management. The NYSDEC mission is "To conserve, improve, and protect New York's natural resources and environment and to prevent, abate, and control water, land, and air pollution, in order to enhance the health, sunset safety, and welfare of the people of the state and their overall economic and social well-being." Past interns at the NYSEC have done winter trapping and others have been hired as full-time field techs.
