This summer I worked under Dr. Anne L. Nielson in the Entomology department here at Rutgers. Her lab is studying the density distribution, and behavior of crop pests in an orchard and implementing IPM techniques.This summer I learned technical skills such as insect rearing and behavior, insect identification, and a multitude of different sampling methods. I applied what I learned in the classroom out in the field. I also learned how to work in a lab setting, teamwork, lab safety, cooperation, and responsibility.
Getting hands on experience in a lab setting helped me discover what I want to pursue as a career choice in the future.
