Department Chair Henry John-Alder was one of 10 Rutgers faculty members named Fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Of the 381 scientists named AAAS Fellows in 2016, Rutgers and the University of Pennsylvania each had 10 fellows, which is the greatest number nationally. John-Alder was cited for "distinguished contributions to the field of evolutionary physiological ecology, particularly in activity energetics and the determinants of sexual size dimorphism."
